Constipation

Have you ever been constipated?

Constipation is not a disease, but a symptom that can have many different causes. Temporary constipation is often caused by unhealthy lifestyle habits such as a low-fiber diet, too little exercise, and insufficient fluid intake. Constipation can also occur in many diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, or hypothyroidism. Medications such as opiates (strong painkillers), diuretics, and medications for sleep disorders can also cause constipation.

Treatment consists of eliminating the causes as far as possible. It is often sufficient to change your lifestyle, e.g., by drinking at least 2 liters of fluid per day and getting enough exercise. Exercises, aids, and various laxatives can also be useful. A combination of different approaches has proven effective for chronic or recurring symptoms. We are sure to find a suitable solution for you.
