Are you feeling spring fever yet?
Not everyone can enjoy spring. Do you know the feeling when your eyes itch and your nose runs constantly? In Switzerland, around 20% of the population is affected by hay fever. Pollen allergy is often hereditary. Typical symptoms include sneezing attacks, runny nose, nasal congestion, difficulty breathing through the nose, itchy and watery eyes, itching in the palate, nose, and ears, hoarseness, and coughing. If left untreated for a long time, pollen allergies can develop into allergic asthma; this is referred to as a "change of level." The diagnosis is made through a comprehensive consultation with a doctor and skin and blood tests. Various medications in the form of nasal sprays, eye drops, or tablets/drops can be used to treat the symptoms of pollen allergies. Complementary medical treatment methods have also proven effective.
These tricks are also helpful:
- Only briefly ventilate rooms
during
the pollen season
- Wear
sunglasses outdoors
- Wash your hair in the evening to minimize the amount of pollen that gets into your
bed
- Store worn clothes outside
the bedroom
- Rinse your nose in the morning and evening with sea water spray or saline solution
