Sunburn

Do you know that feeling when you think, I'm only going out in the sun for a moment, so I don't need to put on sunscreen? And then it happens: sunburn. Sunburn causes the skin to become inflamed because it has been exposed to too much ultraviolet radiation (UV radiation). The affected areas of skin become red, feel hot, may be slightly swollen, feel tight, hurt, itch, and burn. In cases of severe sunburn, blisters may form on the skin. Headaches, fever, nausea with vomiting, and other symptoms may also occur. Extensive sunbathing and sunburn in particular increase the risk of developing skin cancer. Those affected should withdraw from the sun at the first signs of sunburn. Cooling is often sufficient to treat mild sunburn, but if it is more severe, lotions that soothe the skin or inhibit inflammation and anti-inflammatory medications are recommended. If blisters appear on the skin or severe symptoms occur (e.g., fever, nausea), professional treatment is recommended, sometimes even in a hospital. The best preventive measure is to protect yourself with a good sunscreen product. And if it does happen, come see us—we'll be happy to advise you!
